Unhealthy food in supermarket shelf

Multibuys and price promotions update

In our latest update for Kid’s Food Guarantee we conclude little has changed in supermarkets’ efforts to reduce multi-buys and redirect promotions towards healthy food in the UK.

  • 41% of price promotions are on food and drinks high in salt, sugar and fat – well over a third of all offers.
  • 1 in 4 (27.5%) multi-buy deals are on unhealthy food and drinks that are high in salt, sugar and fat.

Supermarkets have made little effort to focus promotions on fruits and vegetables or staple carbohydrates, which would make healthy food more affordable.

Multi-buys on dairy focus on cheese rather than milk or plain unsweetened yogurt.
