Deborah Winkel

Project Manager and researcher

I studied Sustainable Development at Utrecht University and worked at OnePlanet and People4Earth before moving into food systems research. What drew me to Questionmark is the combination of a genuine passion for healthy, sustainable food and the wide variety of projects that all work towards that same goal. I love working towards creating a better world, instead of driving unhealthy and unsustainable consumption.

My work examines how supermarkets shape what ends up on people's plates, from children's food ranges to sustainability rankings across European retailers, and I'm involved from start-to-end, from methodology to execution. Right now that means managing EU LIFE budgets, finalizing the Superlist Environment Belgium report, and working on the methodology for Superlijst Germany together with a range of CSO partners.

I bring experience in planning, managing and leading action-oriented research projects, and in translating findings (often with other CSOs) into recommendations that retailers and policymakers can actually act on.

What keeps this personal: I believe the food we're offered every day shapes our health and our planet long before we ever get to choose. That's why I focus on improving the food environment itself, not just the individual choices within it.
