Our impact in 2026
Markets on the move in 2026
Every insight fuels a conversation, a collaboration, regulation and most importantly, change. On this page, we track what changes as a result of our work.
Measuring what matters
Questionmark works at the intersection of research, market dynamics, and policy. Our impact isn't a single moment, it's a ripple effect: every benchmark reveals new insights that spark competition. Every dialogue builds commitment and collaboration, and together they shape new regulations for a better food system.
We map that progress across three domains: health, environmental sustainability, and human rights.
2026 in numbers so far
Some numbers for the impact we have made in the first half of 2026.

Health
Shaping what ends up in the basket
What ends up in people's shopping basket is not as simple as it seems. What's on the shelf, what's on sale and where you can find it, all determine the food we end up taking home. Our research gives insights that encourage retailers and governments to recognise this impact ánd take responsibility accordingly.
What changed in 2026
- The Dutch ministry for public health launched the monitor healthy sales in supermarkets as an expansion of the existing supermarket dashboard. A crown on Questionmark's benchmarks and a strong signal from the government to monitor supermarket's efforts.
- Our research concluding the majority of food for children in supermarkets is unhealthy, headlined all major news outlets.

Environmental sustainability
Raising the bar across Europe
From benchmarking retailers nationally, we expanded our reach to benchmarking Europe's 27 largest retailers in our first edition of Superlist Environment Europe.
Signs of progress in 2026
- Letter to parliament: Recognition of Questionmark's insights on organic in the Dutch supermarkets from Superlist Environment. It also refers to the impact of our joint workshop with the ministry and the Robin Food Coalition which resulted in concrete expansion plans from Albert Heijn and Farm Dairy."

Human rights
Fair pay from farm to shelf
Food supply chains have a structural issue: farmers, workers, and women are systematically underpaid. With European due diligence legislation on the way, our benchmarking makes clear that retailers can no longer look away.
Three pathways. One goal.
We benchmark Europe's largest retailers and combine our research with civil society campaigns and strategic media exposure to spark competition.
We bring retailers, suppliers, and market authorities together to exchange insights and work toward shared sector agreements.
We advocate for government monitoring and a level playing field through public debate and direct policy advice.
