Aldi Süd takes the next step in the protein strategy and joins in the movement to create a more healthy and sustainable food environment!

🔎Aldi Süd gives transparency in the share of plant-based vs animal in its sales:
→ 56.4%  is plant-based
→ 43.6% is animal-based
This is crucial information to monitor the progression. At the same time, it's important to note a distinction. Some supermarkets, like Aldi Süd report on the share of plant-based products rather than plant-based proteins specifically. This makes numbers difficult to compare.

🎯Aldi Süd intends to set a protein target, in line with all German food retailers. This target is the next important step.

Context:
Aldi Süd is following Lidl in Germany and Rewe in developing protein split targets:
→Lidl Germany, Europe’s largest retailer, has already set a target to increase plant-based proteins in their sales by 20% by 2030. This supermarket also has targets to increase plant-based proteins in food categories high in protein (dairy and alternatives).
→Just recently Rewe, the second largest European food retailer, announced a new target: to increase the share of plant-based in its sales from 54% in 2024 to 60% by 2035.
