Amsterdam endorses plant-based treaty

The municipality of Amsterdam is the first capital within the EU to have signed the Plant-Based Treaty. It will centre its food provision around plant-based and target 60% plant-based food consumption among its citizens by 2030.

The food environment is pivotal in shaping food consumption patterns. The municipality states it will encourage restaurants, caterers and the events sector to provide more plant-based food.

Amsterdam follows in the footsteps of Edinburgh, Los Angeles and others throughout the world. They all recognise the importance of encouraging more plant-based consumption in the face of climate and health crises.
