Manager collaboration Harald Lek (Questionmark) on organic dairy: 'farmers in transition have something to choose from'

How Questionmark is helping accelerate momentum in the Dutch organic dairy sector
🌱 The past months, our Manager Collaboration, Harald Lek has been exploring opportunities to drive and accelerate the transition to more sales of organic dairy products. Questionmark benchmarks retailers to drive competition, fosters collaboration across the sector, and advocates companies to set clear goals, with a focus on organic farming.
🥛After encouraging supermarkets to set targets for a growth in organic sales overall, Questionmark now looks specifically to organic dairy, why?
→ The Dutch government has set a goal of 15% organic agricultural land by 2030. More than half of the agricultural land in the Netherlands is used for grassland, mainly for dairy farming. So, a growth in the demand for organic dairy will drive more organic agriculture.
🚀 We now see crucial developments across the supply chain, as key players in different parts of the chain make a move to more organic dairy
- Supermarkets: Dutch market leader Albert Heijn aims for 10% revenue share of private label organic assortment by 2030. This requires a growth of more than 40% compared to 2025. Dairy makes up a key category.
- Manufacturers: Farm dairy has announced to expand into organic dairy production.
- Suppliers: Royal A-ware is recruiting organic farmers and farmers converting to organic

What does this mean? Market players wanting to switch to organic have more to choose from
→ supermarkets have more choice in where to source their organic dairy
→ farmers have a wider choice in where to sell their organic dairy
