Hotline Food Claims

Claims about the sustainability of food and drinks. Are they warranted?

🇳🇱 Netherlands
November 2023

In the face of the climate crisis, the food system needs to become more sustainable. Food producers and brands want to make their efforts visible by communicating about sustainability. While this increases transparency in the food environment, this potentially also gives rise to misleading sustainability claims.

It is important consumers can trust that sustainability claims on food products are true. Questionmark will create an overview of sustainability claims of food and drinks and their advertisements in The Netherlands. Potentially unwarranted claims will be researched and if necessary complaints will be filed at the Dutch Advertising Code Commission (Reclame Code Commissie).
