Dutch supermarkets frontrunners on climate targets in Europe

Albert Heijn, Lidl and Jumbo, the three largest supermarkets in the Netherlands, rank among Europe’s top four for their plans toward a more sustainable food system. This is shown by Superlijst Environment Europe 2026. Lidl and Albert Heijn are leading the way in translating climate targets into concrete plans, but only Jumbo shows cautious declines in emissions. As a result, the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement are still not within reach, as achieving them requires a strong reduction in emissions.
