Supermarkets do little for fair income farmers and workers in their supply chains
Dutch supermarkets are still taking too few measures within their international supply chains to ensure that farmers and workers receive fair pay. At the same time, these retailers are well aware of the significant risks of human rights abuses in their chains, such as child labor and underpayment. While supermarkets are making progress in the banana and cocoa sectors, a comprehensive approach for all high-risk products is currently lacking. These findings come from the latest edition of Superlist Social, the benchmark on supermarkets' human rights policies. The efforts of all retailer, ranging from frontrunner Lidl to laggard Dirk, remain inadequate.
