What's in store: retail and the future of protein
23-24 April 2026
📍Berlin, Germany

Our director Charlotte Linnebank and director of programs Gustaaf Haan attended the “What’s in store: Retail & the Future of Protein” in Berlin, alongside many of our partners and fellow industry leaders to explore and shape the future of protein.
Having benchmarked the largest European retailers in our Superlist Environment Europe 2026, Charlotte was given the opportunity to share the lessons on what’s working, what’s failing and how to close the gap during an interview.
We believe supermarkets hold the key to a sustainable future. The clear call to action, presented by the event organisers, is one we strongly endorse and one we already actively working towards:
📏 Measure the ratio of plant‑ to animal‑source food sales using harmonised methodologies.
📢 Publish results publicly every year.
🎯 Set targets to increase the share of plant‑based sales in line with the Planetary Health Diet.
đź’Ą Take ambitious action to hit those targets.
Also great to see Lidl International presenting their strategy and performance on healthy and sustainable nutrition, including their leading position in Superlist Environment Europe 2026.
Thanks to Madre Brava, Proveg International, WWF and the World Resources Institute for initiating this event.
